Heidi, We Need To Talk About The Ants.

The universe teaches in layers. Lessons unfold over days, weeks — sometimes lifetimes. This particular one came gently, and then all at once.

It started when I killed a bug in my house. It was late, I was tired, and my daughter was scared. I didn’t think — I just reacted. Normally, I would have taken it outside like I always do, but that night I chose control over compassion. A few days later, a dragonfly flew into the room while I was painting. Its delicate wings got stuck in the wet canvas. I tried to free it — carefully, lovingly — but I couldn’t. It was suffering, and in that moment, I made the choice to end its pain. And then I sobbed. I grieved deeply for that tiny creature. It hurt more than I expected. Something about its sweet eyes looking up at me, the helplessness, the intimacy of the moment — it broke something open in me. That grief was a teacher, too. Then came the ants. They appeared in my kitchen, and for several days I was locked in clean-up mode, killing them as I justified it: “They can’t live here.” It felt reasonable — until it didn’t. That night, my guides came through. Calm, but direct. “Heidi,” they said, “we need to talk about the ants.” They showed me how deeply conditioned we are to resort to violence — not necessarily out of cruelty, but out of fear, control, and habit. Even with good intentions, even with the best reasons, it’s still a reflex that needs to be unlearned. They reminded me that all creatures are equally loved. The universe doesn’t play favorites. It doesn’t value one life over another. Then they dropped the part that really landed: “The intention doesn’t matter — the energy is still the same.” No matter how kind my reasoning, I had still taken life. That was the lesson in non-duality — beyond “good” or “bad,” just the truth of the energy created.

Then my guides showed me another way. They said that higher-level beings don’t control or dominate — they communicate. They collaborate with the universe to create what they need. So they invited me to go into the astral and meet the ants — not as pests, but as the beings of love and light they truly are. And so I did. I saw them clearly. I spoke to them with respect as equals. I asked them to leave and explained that the food on my counter is not their natural diet, and to my surprise, they agreed. Then my guides asked, “And now, what are you going to do about the ants on your counter?” I said, “I’m going to leave them there.” And I did. Over the next two days, the number of ants gradually faded — and just like we agreed, by day two, they were gone.

So yes, you read that right: I spoke with the ants. And they listened. Because when we honor all beings as sacred, we no longer need to dominate them — we simply need to listen, and trust that the universe listens too.
