Lessons on Not Hating the Player or the Game

"To heal people, you have to see them through the eyes of the Universe," the Universe said. That was six months ago, and I can now see the poor, the hurt, and the people who have "wronged" me with love. But there's one group of people that I have been struggling to see with love. This group includes those of us born with privilege and wealth. I'm not sure of where my judgment stems from. If it's ingrained, or maybe I have some karma to clear on the topic. I always try to use the world around me as a mirror, so perhaps this is a reflection of myself? Some people would consider myself privileged. 

The Universe did what the Universe does best and repeated the lesson, waiting for me to pick up on the signs. I'll give them credit for being reliable and consistent teachers. The podcasts I was listening to, my new co-worker, friends, and a spiritual teacher — everywhere around me was privilege and wealth. 

It's 3 AM, and I'm awake and conversing with my soul. I go back and forth on the problem, working out every detail until finally, my soul says, "Some people choose to play the game of Monopoly, and some people choose to play The Game of Life. This round, you chose to play The Game of Life. Your new co-worker chose to play the game of Monopoly. There's nothing wrong with playing Monopoly! You've gotten bored of Monopoly." It all started to make sense. We're all playing different games of our choosing. No game is better or worse than the other; it is just different. And just like that, I let go of my judgments and could see them all as intended with love and compassion. It makes me wonder how many board games there are. 

She adds, "You can't play two different games simultaneously, Heidi; you have to choose one." I realize I've been trying to play both Monopoly and The Game of Life at the same time. It's time to make a choice. We are taught that Monopoly is the only game available to us, but surprise! It's not. There's a whole cabinet full of board games. Enjoy!
